Either you’re in the process of assessing EDI or you’re already using an on-premise solution, it is probably time to make the transition to the cloud. And if “cloud” sounds too vague, just consider that it is already part of our daily life. So, let’s take a look at some of the parameters you need to consider before acquiring a cloud-based EDI solution.
What about the existing infrastructure?
An important advantage of a cloud-based EDI solution is that it can replace your on-premise infrastructure, without requiring additional investment in expensive hardware. All cloud-based EDI solutions can be fully and seamlessly integrated with your ERP system.
Scalability
Cloud-based solutions can grow and develop, exactly as your business does. And because they are based in the cloud, you can scale them up or down (especially if your business needs are determined by seasonal factors). Thus, you pay only for the features you’re actually using and re-adjust them according to your needs, as opposed to an on-premise solution where such adjustments are extremely expensive and time-consuming.
Security and knowledge sharing
Your business is no longer obligated to employ a large IT team or EDI specialists, since you can easily outsource these tasks to your vendor that will be responsible for implementing your EDI solution. Investing money in a new on-premise solution is certainly a high-risk venture, especially when it comes to new technologies. But, with cloud-based solutions, this is no longer the case since your EDI vendor will release the latest updates only after these have been carefully tested, while providing you with support services on a daily basis.
Backup
Ensuring that you have a complete backup for your files, is often very difficult as is making sure that you have safely stored all different versions, in case you need them. With a cloud-based solution, you can rely on your vendor to perform all the necessary backup processes and ensure that your business data is secure – performing all the necessary tasks remotely.
Full access – anywhere, anytime
The truth is that, up until recently, access to traditional, not on-premise, EDI solutions was largely unknown to most business executives. But, since cloud-based solutions became available, both business executives and employees can have access to their EDI system from everywhere and anywhere – all it takes is connecting the mobile app to the system, and you can access your EDI solution regardless of your location.
